Welcome Back Intermediate Students
Posted on 01/29/2021

Hello everyone,

The Ontario Ministry of Education announced yesterday that all elementary and intermediate students will be returning to face to face instruction on Monday, February 1st . Thank you for your support and flexibility during this last month as we navigated online learning.  It truly was a joy to “see”students engage with each other and staff, and stay connected while learning. The LDH staff are looking forward to welcoming  students back into the building on Monday morning. We know that in some families there are mixed emotions about coming back to school, which is understandable, but know that the LDH staff will do everything we can to ensure a smooth and comfortable transition.

Monday will be a regular school day for the LDH intermediate students, they will be following their timetable as it is. Teachers will send a message through their Google Classrooms reinforcing what class each homeform will start with on Monday.

As always our first priority will be maintaining the safety of both students and staff.  Along those lines we want to reinforce some of the basic safety processes that the OCDSB and LDH have put in place. On Monday, we will review all the covid-19 protocols when students arrive.

This is critically important for a safe and consistent return to school.

Remember to screen your children each morning using the OPH screening tool HERE (bookmark this page or add it to your Home Screen on your phone).  Students and families are to do a self-screening for symptoms of COVID every day before they come to school.  A new process will come into effect on Feb. 10 where the school will require written confirmation from both students and staff before they enter the school.  More information will be coming concerning this process next week. (new)

Tech Return

If you had borrowed a hotspot or chromebook(s) from the school, we ask that they be sent back on Monday with the charger (preferably in a ziplock bag if possible).  Students can return items to their homeroom teacher.  Alternatively, parents can drive to the school and drop it off between 10am and 2pm, please just call the school number once you arrive (613-843-7722) and someone will come out to pick it up.

Students are to arrive at LDH between 8:45 a.m. and 8:55 a.m.   Students are to line up at their respective class designated pylons and to respect social distancing. Students arriving long before entry time means more time standing outside and increases likelihood of students congregating.

Parents are reminded that dropping off students before the start of school should be done on Berrigan Avenue or on Longfields Drive (by the skate park).  The Crescent shaped entrance way off Berrigan is reserved for buses only from 8:25 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Students will enter and exit the school (school arrival, recess , end of the  day) by the same designated door.

Students will be required to use hand sanitizer upon entry into the building and  every time they leave the classroom.

Students will have access to their lockers to store their winter clothing.  Students will not be able to access their lockers to store classroom materials (textbooks, notebooks, pencil cases etc.)

All students must wear a mask at all times in the school.  Students are required to wear a mask outside when they are unable to respect social distancing (new).

It is always recommended that they pack additional masks in case one breaks or gets wet/dirty.

Only two students are allowed to be in the same bathroom at the same time. Students are reminded to wait outside the washroom if it is at capacity.

Students are expected to stay at their desks when eating lunch and avoid walking around the classroom. Failure to follow these expectations may result in students having to eat at alternate locations.

Students are expected to stay in their respective zones at all times when out at recess. Failure to follow these expectations may result in removal of recess privileges.

February, March, and April are colder months in Canada and we want to encourage students to dress for the elements .  Students will be outside for recess  twice a day, and possibly could be doing physical education outside as well.  In case of extreme cold weather or rain, students will have indoor recess and may have their physical education classes inside.  We would encourage students and families to store a pair of indoor running shoes in their lockers at school for such occasions.  Students are asked to dress in layers , so that they can participate in physical education activities  Students will not have access to change rooms.

School Visitors

Parents and other visitors are not allowed in the building.  In the case of exceptional circumstances, parents are encouraged to contact the school administration to set up a meeting

We are looking forward to seeing lots of happy, energetic faces on Monday morning.  Have a good weekend.
