Welcome Back - Hybrid Model - Monday, Feb. 1, 2021
Posted on 01/29/2021

Hello everyone,

The Ontario Ministry of Education announced yesterday that all secondary students will be returning to face to face instruction on Monday, February 1st . The LDH staff is looking forward to welcoming students back into the building on Monday morning.   As always our first priority will be maintaining the safety of both students and staff.  Along those lines we want to reinforce some of the basic safety processes that the OCDSB and LDH have put in place.

  • ·         Students and families are to do the self-screening assessment for symptoms of COVID every day before they come to school Screening Tool for Students l.  A new process will come into effect on Feb. 10 where the school will require daily confirmation from both students and staff before they enter the school.  More information will be coming concerning this process next week. (new)
  • ·         Students are to arrive at LDH between 8:45 a.m. and 8:55 a.m.   Students will enter and exit the school through their designated doorway.  Students with a class on the first floor will enter through the music hallway doors.  Students with a class on the second floor will enter through the main doors.  Students with a class on the third floor will enter through the doors by the culinary arts room.
  • ·         All students must wear a mask at all times while in the school.  Students are required to wear a mask outside when they are unable to respect social distancing (new).
  • ·         Students will be required to hand sanitize every time they enter and leave the classroom.
  • ·         Only two students are allowed to be in the same washroom at the same time.
  • ·         Only two students are allowed in the main office at the same time.  Students are asked to wait out in the hall until space becomes available.
  • Students will have the opportunity to meet with their guidance counselors virtually.  Students will not be permitted in the Guidance area (unless there is an emergency).  Students should email their guidance counselors to set up a meeting if required.

  • Students are expected to respect social distancing at all times while at school both in the classroom and out in the hallway.

  • Parents and other visitors are not allowed in the building.  In the case of exceptional circumstances, parents are encouraged to contact the school administration to set up a meeting.
  • Parents are reminded that dropping off students before the start of school should be done on Berrigan Avenue or the city parking lot off Longfields Drive (by the old skate park site).  The Crescent shaped entrance way off Berrigan is reserved for buses only from 8:25 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Term 3

Monday, February 1st will mark the beginning of term 3. The OCDSB is going back to the hybrid model that was in place from September until December of this year.  Students will take two courses per term and will rotate their classes on a week to week basis (i.e. English (class one) one week and Math (class two) the next week).  Students in each class will be split into two cohorts (A&B) and will rotate between being in class in person one day and learning from home the next.  Teachers of term 3 classes will contact students in their class on Friday, Jan. 29 to provide them with the following information:

a)       Location of the classroom

b)      Which cohort the student is in (Cohort A – surnames A-K, - Cohort B – surnames – L-Z)

c)       Whether the student is in person on Monday or whether they are learning from home

d)      Reminder to bring textbooks from term 2 (if applicable)

We are including the schedule for the entire term (Feb-Mid April) in this email

OCDSB Calendar by Semester

Students who are learning in person are expected to be in class at 8:55 a.m., but in order to help with social distancing students will have until 9:10 to make it to class before being marked late.   Students will be in that class until they are dismissed at 12:45 p.m. The teacher will schedule various breaks throughout this time period.

It is important to acknowledge that the pace of term 3 classes will go quite quickly.  Students are encouraged to attend class regularly, and to communicate with the teacher when an absence is necessary.

Textbooks & Other Resources

Students who have textbooks and other resources (i.e instruments, art supplies etc.) from term 2 are asked to bring them to school on Monday Feb. 1, and Tuesday Feb, 2. . Students are asked to bring them to their term 3 class at the beginning of the day.  At some point during the morning, individual classes will be called down to return their textbooks. The textbooks will be quarantined for the prescribed period of time, and then redistributed to students during the second week of February.

We are looking forward to seeing lots of happy, energetic faces on Monday morning.  Have a great weekend.
