During the Great Depression, a brave group of female librarians in rural Kentucky, locally hailed as Book Women traverse mountains and forests to bring books to the furthest reaches of the county. All around them people are suffering, yet they risk their lives to bring joy and education to the people around them. These Book Women have changed the community around them for the better, and are hoping to improve their funding as a young reporter from the New York Times arrives to write an article about them. Will love blossom between this young reporter and one of the Book Women? Will the newest recruit end up joining the Book Women for good? And will these women be able to continue their deliveries as the furthest villages begin to starve?
