Transition to Online Learning Jan. 4 to Jan. 22, 2021 

Dear Families,

Happy New Year!  I hope that you have enjoyed the winter break. Due to the province-wide shutdown, students in the secondary panel will be shifting to remote learning on Monday, January 4th until Friday, January, 22nd. During this period, students will learn from home and will not attend school, with the exception of students in some special education program classes (see below for more information).  A separate email is being sent to intermediate students and parents.  

Transition Day on Monday, January 4th 

Monday, January 4th will be a transition day and the regular school day schedule will not be followed. The school staff will be meeting at the start of the day to plan for the transition and arrange for the distribution of technology. Teachers will use this day to adjust their programming, reach out to students and families, update lessons on the online learning platform, ensure access to passwords and provide information about class schedules.

Teachers of term 2 class one will be reaching out between 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and teachers of term 2 class two will be reaching out between 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.  Students should check their google classrooms or their ocdsb emails  for specific times from their teachers.

Schedule for January 5th-22nd

  • After the transition day on January 4th, the daily schedule will be modified for the period of the closure and both cohorts (A and B) will learn together.  

  • Students will have both subjects taught each day in two 112.5 minute blocks of instruction.

  • Attendance will be taken at the start of each learning block.

  • The teacher will provide parents and guardians with more detailed information about the course/ subject schedule and will post updates and instructions for students in the VLE.

10:53 a.m. - 11:03 a.m.

Remote Student Support

Access to Technology and/or Wifi

If you require access to a Chromebook, the school has a limited number available and may be able to lend one to you. If you do not have access to the internet because it is not available where you live, there are a small number of hotspots available.  Please contact Christine Reynolds at [email protected] or call the school at (613) 843-7722, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.


Special Education - Specialized Program Classes:

All students in specialized program classes (Secondary ASD classes) will attend remotely on January 4th, 5th and 6th. Teachers of specialized class programs will be contacting families who had previously selected in-person learning to determine if they would like to return to in-person beginning 7 January 2021 or to continue remote learning until all in-person learning resumes.  Parents/guardians, and students where appropriate, are encouraged to select the option that would best meet the needs of their youth and family. 


Every effort will be made to ensure that small vehicle transportation will be available for in-person learners in fully self-contained specialized programs K-12 classes beginning 7 January 2021.

This does not include secondary students on credit pathways (e.g., gifted, learning disability, ASD secondary credit support, physical support) who will pivot to remote learning as per their timetable, effective 4 January 2021.

More information regarding the return to in-person learning for students in special education programming will be shared by your child’s teacher.
