Black History: A Day of Celebration

OCDSB’s Family and Community Engagement (FACE) department is organizing an in-person event, Black History: A Day of Celebration, on February 11, 2023, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. to celebrate Black Excellence. Parents/caregivers, students, staff and community members are invited to join us for this in-person event at Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School

This event, which is a part of OCDSB’s activities for the 2023 Black History Month, will begin with a keynote address by Meghan Stewart, founder of Mindfulness Meghan, located in Ottawa. In 2021, she launched the Mindful Educator Program as a part of the New Teacher Induction Program for school boards across Canada. She was featured in CBC as a one of 10 women in the Ottawa area building community by supporting and promoting wellness. She has over 15 years of experience within human resources, hospitality and philanthropy into all her projects and offerings.

The event will be emceed by OCDSB students. The keynote will be followed by performances by various OCDSB students and staff, and community members. There will also be information tables set up for participants to interact with and learn about the work of Black Excellence Student Clubs.
